ZF is a company with a strong, longstanding engineering culture in vehicle parts manufacturing and other hardware-focused products, but until recently it did not have a similarly strong digital focus. In particular, its commercial vehicle division wanted to start leveraging cloud infrastructure to iterate faster on digital products and reduce the up front capital expenditure associated with on premise data centers.
Aloalto had to set up new cloud infrastructure, permission controls and a governance structure to underpin the work of several teams working on new digital products, define best practices around cloud usage and deploying workloads to the cloud.
Aloalto set up a multi-account Amazon Web Services (AWS) organisation, a governance structure following IAM, logging, monitoring and DevOps best practices and provide application and infrastructure support to ZF teams over a 7 year period.
ZF teams have thrived in their new cloud environment, and several teams have become AWS evangelists, achieving autonomy and building out entire suites of products on AWS with Aloalto’s support.
